As a survivor of rape I want to thank The Rape
Crisis Center for over exceeding my expectations, the support offered
to survivors can make a world of difference. Giving all survivors “An
opportunity to heal, a light in the darkness, freedom to speak
out and for once feel like someone heard”.
I’m a Survivor and I no
longer choose
To live with fear, anger, or guilt
Because I cannot change what happened
that night, but I can change the way I live tomorrow
And I give myself the right to choose nothing
But the best for me

The Rape Crisis Center Organization
Profile
The Rape Crisis Center is Clark County’s only non-profit
providing intervention, advocacy, support and education to those
affected by sexual violence. Its mission is to begin the process
of healing in victims of sexual assault. The Rape Crisis Center
responds to calls 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Once they
receive a call, an advocate is available to meet victims at the
hospital and follow up with referrals to counseling, support groups
and medical aid.
The Rape Crisis Center also provides the following
services:
* Acting as a liaison between Metro and the victim
* Providing shelter in the case of domestic violence
* Court advocacy
* Assistance in applying for victims of crime compensation
* 24-hour hotline for primary and secondary victims
* Educational programs for children and adults
All services are free to victims. The Rape Crisis Center receives
86 percent of funding from grants, with the remainder coming through
private foundations, fundraising and private donations.
The Rape Crisis Center dates back to 1974, when Florence McClure
and Sandra Petta were outraged by the community’s lack of
resources and respect for those affected by sexual assault. They
started Community Action Against Rape, which operated out of Mrs.
McClure’s home. The goal was to help those affected by sexual
violence.
Today, the Rape Crisis Center is located on the College of Southern
Nevada campus, and the staff and volunteers also work throughout
the Valley. Thirty-three years since it was founded, the Rape Crisis
Center now has a team of seven full-time and one part-time staff,
along with four paid advocates, 20 volunteer advocates, 20 education
facilitators and 14 volunteer board members. Their goal remains
the same: The Rape Crisis Center is committed to helping those
in our community heal from the trauma of sexual violence. The Rape
Crisis Center continues serving all of Clark County, Nevada.
